Oak is still one of the most popular types of wood for flooring. That is why oak parquet is also very popular. Brushed oak is particularly beautiful. The easy installation of brushed oak parquet is also a real boon, thanks to the practical click connection.

Brushed oak parquet – the special features

Oak is worked with the brush in the direction of growth until all parts of the soft wood have been removed. This makes the distinctive grain much more visible. Since there are no more soft wood particles on the surface, the brushed oak parquet is very solid and therefore also hard-wearing.

After brushing, the surface is oiled or varnished to seal it, preventing penetration by dirt and humidity.

Oak wood comes in different shades, from light to dark, depending on the natural growth of the oak. Sealing with oil or varnish can result in additional colouring. Other design features include the widths of the parquet planks. In addition to the 1-strip country style, there is also the 3-strip ship's floor. The brushed oak ship's floor parquet is very suitable for smaller rooms. In any case, a visually appealing oak parquet with a brushed structure can be found for every living room. Such flooring also looks very decorative in offices.

Easily installed

Since oak parquet is made from natural wood, it has pleasantly warm and cushioning properties. You won’t need to install impact sound insulation under the parquet floor. However, you should not do without a vapour barrier; this can easily be laid on the subfloor. The vapour barrier should be folded up a little against the walls so that fits behind the skirting boards.

The parquet floorboards are then laid out starting at one wall. A distance of ten millimetres should be maintained from all walls so that the parquet can adapt to the temperatures by swelling. The individual boards of brushed oak parquet are simply joined together using a practical click system.

The 5 most frequently asked questions about Parquet Flooring

Parquet is not suitable for installation in damp rooms. To adapt to the climatic conditions of the room, parquet planks should be stored for about 48 hours to acclimatise. As wood is a living natural material, leave an expansion gap of 10 mm between the floor and the wall when installing. You can cover this later with skirting boards or cover strips.

The colour of the parquet floor has a great influence on the overall effect of the room. Parquet in paler colours immediately brings light into the room and makes it appear larger. Dark parquet floors look noble and opulent, while exuding warmth and cosiness. Grey wooden floors create a calm, elegant ambience. Natural-coloured floors are cosy and neutral and can fit any room, be it lively or calm, rustic or elegant.

Parquet with a lacquered surface reflects more light and is easier to clean. Oiled parquet brings out the fine grain of the wood and its natural colour. It’s important that a parquet floor with a lacquered surface is maintained and, if necessary, re-oiled over time.

The general rule is that the planks should be laid lengthwise towards the light. This emphasises the shape of the room. For long and narrow rooms, it is recommended to lay parquet lengthwise.

As a natural floor covering, parquet is protected from dirt and moisture by a sealant. For initial care, it is sufficient to clean the parquet floor dry with a broom, mop or vacuum cleaner. A naturally oiled parquet floor must also be treated with a suitable agent. Clean the parquet surface either dry or with a slightly damp cloth or mop.
