A narrow vessel structure and many fibres are the characteristic features of hardwood. Due to slow growth, hardwood for decking has a particularly high density. It is very resilient and withstands outdoor weather conditions very well. Most hardwood decking boards are made of tropical woods, which are very suitable for use as decking boards for patios and balconies. Due to their robustness, resistance to pests and low maintenance, they are also used for bathing jetties or as pool surrounds.

Hardwood decking – important tips

Hardwood as a natural building material offers many advantages but it also has its own peculiarities. Due to the high density of the wood, we recommend pre-drilling screws. Natural colour differences, slight cupping, transverse curvatures and twists, on the other hand, can occur and in no way affect the durability and strength of the product.

IMPORTANT: A terrace made of hardwood must not be combined with substructures made of softwoods such as larch, Douglas fir, pine or spruce. The substructure should ideally be made from the same type of wood as the decking boards themselves. Aluminium and the wood species angelim pedra, bongossi and mumure are also suitable materials for the substructure of a hardwood terrace.
